Before activation, the clinic and provider must agree the parties' roles, documented instructions, service purposes, duration, patient-data categories, authorised users, security controls, providers and processing countries. They must also establish international-transfer safeguards where needed, incident contacts, rights assistance, retention, return/deletion and audit arrangements. The clinic must assess its lawful basis, the additional condition for health data, applicable national obligations and whether a data-protection impact assessment is required.
